The only way to move forward is to move inward
Story
I came to the yoga path after several career changes and a search for meaning in my life. Combining a busy job in marketing and event management with a lot of sports, I ultimately reached the limits of what my body and mind could handle. I knew I wanted a change but felt stuck. After much doubt, I took a bold step: I left my job and set out on a solo journey around the world in October 2012. Buying that ticket and stepping out of my comfort zone changed my life.
Despite my passion for movement and sports, I initially found yoga slow and boring and was convinced it wasn’t for me—until a sports injury while training for a marathon and my journey to Bali brought me onto the yoga mat. For the first time, I learned to slow down, listen to my body, and feel at home with myself.
During that journey to Bali and Asia, which eventually lasted five months, I expanded, met inspiring teachers, and discovered inner confidence, strength, calm, and connection. I found unexpected answers to life’s questions, all of which inspired me to take my life in a different direction. Returning home in March 2013, I decided to use my marketing and organizational skills to create yoga retreats with inspiring teachers.
Yoganic Moves was born, initially as a yoga holiday organization. A year later, I decided to become a teacher myself.
I dove deeper, studying with many different teachers and styles of yoga. My curiosity and desire to learn more and understand the body’s functioning led me to study anatomy and physiology, starting my journey with Yoga Medicine to become a Yoga Therapeutic Specialist.
Story
After a deep dive into yoga practice, I became very flexible—but also got injured. So, I began adding sports back into my routine, focusing on strength and interval training. I began to use yoga, meditation, breathwork, and other modalities as my therapeutic practice to prevent injuries and find balance, juggling my business, yoga activities, and personal life.
On this path, I’ve learned so much: from changing careers and feeling lost to facing my biggest fears. I can now see that my greatest challenges have been my greatest teachers, shaping me into who I am today.
I believe we all have unique qualities and potential that can emerge when we slow down, connect within, and find the courage to show up, face our fears, and follow the calling of our spirit. Yoga is an journey inward, that will expand you outward.
Knowledge
I was originally certified in Ashtanga Yoga, completing a 200-hour teacher training in Thailand in 2013, followed by 80 hours in Yin Yoga with Sarah Powers’ Insight Yoga, and a 300-hour advanced training with Radiantly Alive in Bali in 2016.
In recent years, I’ve completed an additional 800 hours toward my Yoga Medicine Specialist certification with Tiffany Cruikshank (Yoga Medicine) and complemented my movement training with courses in meditation, breathwork, myofascial release, mental health, and Thai massage. I believe that, even as a teacher, I remain a student for the rest of my life, so I continue to study and develop.
My specialty is Yoga for Athletes, and in 2022, I released a book outlining the reasons and methods for using yoga to build resilience and enhance athletic performance.
About me
With over 12 years dedicated to teaching yoga full-time, hosting retreats all over the world, my journey is marked by a deep passion for movement, yoga, and holistic well-being.
As the author of a Dutch book on yoga for athletes, my expertise extends beyond conventional yoga practices. My extensive training with Yoga Medicine, including over 800 hours of study in functional anatomy, yoga therapy, and mental health, underscores my commitment to holistic wellness. Drawing from a rich toolbox cultivated over the years, I integrate various modalities into my practice, including breathwork, meditation, tapping, fluid and strong vinyasa, yin yoga, and myofascial release.
In my diverse roles as a yoga teacher, student, entrepreneur, and sports enthusiast, I set high standards and continually aim to raise the bar. For me, yoga is a tool that helps me listen to my needs, prevent injuries, and manage the daily stressors and challenges in life. Having experienced both extreme stiffness and flexibility—and the injuries that often accompany them—I now advocate for finding a balance between strength and flexibility, effort and ease.
Whether you are recovering from an injury, want to build strength, find tools to release stress and tension in your life, I would love to guide you.
